So we drove down into spring, coming from Chicago to Hopkinsville.
It is beautiful, the redbuds are blooming, and although there was some rain Saturday, it was mostly sunny today.
People talk differently here. It's amazing how much of a regional accent remains.
And we had the "they are all related" experience again. Someone at the UU church mentioned that her mother's maiden name was the same as my husband's, and a little checking leads me to believe that she's a distant cousin of his. |

Is there actually a UU congregation in Hopkinsville or did you go to the one in Owensboro? I used to drive past their little white building all the time . . .
There is in fact a UU church in Hopkinsville - very small now (maybe 30 or so members?), but it is a historically Universalist Church and one of the oldest in the town, founded in 1819. (Universalism was very strong in this part of Kentucky in the early 1800s)
Our first experience there some 18 years ago was an elderly lady saying to Ben "Ben Calvin? You must be Harold's boy. My husband's mother Sydney was first cousing to your Granddaddy, Ulysses." It's that sort of town. | |
